Harbour Master Plan
Plans approved for Elizabeth Harbour redevelopment
Our plans for Elizabeth Harbour have been approved by the Planning Committee. The Elizabeth Harbour redevelopment scheme is the catalyst for the wider St Helier Harbour Master Plan and is critical to maintaining the Island’s lifeline.
The redevelopment of Elizabeth Harbour will bring numerous benefits, including:
- increased capacity for freight and a boost for local businesses
- improved facilities for passengers
- enhanced safety features ensuring a secure environment for all harbour users
- new public realm areas for Islanders to enjoy
- aligning with Jersey’s sustainable development and contributing to Jersey’s net zero trajectory
- creation of new jobs during the construction phase
Now that we have the go-ahead for our plans, we look forward to progressing the project and starting the first stages of the development.
About the Harbour Master Plan
Ports of Jersey is embarking on a once-in-a-generation programme to transform the harbours in St Helier.
Much of the harbour infrastructure is ageing and no longer meets the needs of today’s passengers or vessels. The Harbour Master Plan aims to modernise the facilities which have developed piecemeal over many centuries.
The regeneration will safeguard the long-term viability of the harbour, serving both passengers and freight, improve customer experience, and realise the area’s potential as a leisure, cultural and tourism destination.
The Plan will cover Elizabeth Harbour, New North Quay, Albert Pier, Victoria Pier, and the Old Harbours to create a vibrant harbour community, which is better connected to town with more inclusive and accessible spaces for use by Islanders and visitors.
