A book of poems and pictures celebrating the 150th anniversary of Corbière Lighthouse has been presented to Jersey’s Harbour Master, Captain Bill Sadler.

Year 2 pupils from St John’s Primary School started learning about the lighthouse and working on the project after their teacher heard about the anniversary, and Heather Paul wanted them to present their work to a lighthouse representative. So Captain Sadler visited the school to attend the presentation.

Captain Sadler said: “We were so impressed with the amazing paintings and poems created to mark Corbière’s 150th birthday, that we have decided to keep them at Corbière, so when the lighthouse reaches 200 years old, school children in 50 years’ time will be able to see and enjoy the work.

“Placing the children’s work in the lighthouse will add to its rich history and create a lasting legacy.”

The children explained how they enjoyed the project: –

Max said; “I was happy that Captain William Sadler was able to come to school and share our learning, I felt proud.”

Isabel said: “I felt really proud when we shared our poems and pictures of Corbière, it was special.”

Isla said: “I feel really proud that our poems are in a book and that they will be in Corbière Lighthouse.”

Sophie said: “I have enjoyed learning facts about Corbière Lighthouse.”
