Dismantling of former hangar

Ports of Jersey is to start dismantling a former airport hangar, after receiving planning permission for its removal earlier this year.

The building was constructed in 1958 and has not housed aircraft for 25 years. In its final years it was used to store ground equipment, but it is now empty.

RoK were successful in winning a competitive tender for the work, in partnership with the Jersey Demolition Company. The two companies are now conducting surveys and condition reports on the building, and a specialist company has been contracted to carry out an asbestos survey to ensure its safe removal.

Work to clear the building’s interior is due to start within the next few weeks, with the aim of completing the dismantling of the entire structure during the first quarter of 2025.

Airport Operations Director, Ashley Maggs, said: “As the building is dismantled we will be evaluating the site and considering its future use, once the Airport’s future operational requirements are finalised.”
