Investing in Elizabeth Marina

From Jersey Marinas
1st October 2024

Essential maintenance work is due to start tomorrow (2 October) at Elizabeth Marina. The marina’s 70 steel tubular piles, installed in 1997, are starting to show surface corrosion and will be cleaned and coated with a specialist product to protect them and to safeguard the vessels using the pontoons.

The work is expected to be completed by the end of November and is being carried out after the main boating season to minimise disruption. It is not possible to delay the work any further as winter weather would be more likely to limit workable hours, and the specialist product has temperature requirements for setting,

The work will require a floating platform to be positioned around each pile, which will create some temporary access restrictions. Ports of Jersey has been coordinating closely with affected boat owners to keep disruption to a minimum.

Head of Maritime Delivery and Business Development, Donford Nicholas, said: “This essential maintenance for Elizabeth Marina represents continued investment in our marine infrastructure. It will prolong the life of the marina framework and enhance the service for local boat-owners. We anticipate up to a dozen boat movements per day to enable this work, and we have offered a complimentary hoist and free stay at the boat park for a limited number of vessels, to free up space in the marina.

“We appreciate that this will cause some disruption, but this short project will improve the fabric of the facilities used by local boat owners.”

The work is due to start tomorrow, Wednesday 02 October
