Ports of Jersey has received a Rewild Carbon certificate from Durrell, after contributing funds to a programme of tree-planting in Brazil. Rewild Carbon allows organisations to balance their emissions by rewilding threatened ecosystems.

Ports of Jersey’s latest investment of £40,000 enabled the planting and nurturing of more than 7,000 trees in Brazil, from a wide variety of native species. This initiative has helped provide sustainable livelihoods for the local community, as well as restoring habitat for the many threatened species of mammals and birds who live in the Atlantic Forest.

Head of Sustainability and Community Value, Sophie Roffe said: “We have been balancing our emissions with Durrell’s Rewild Carbon programme for a few years now and it is amazing to see the progress that the project has made in the Atlantic Forest.

“Although we are working hard to reduce our emissions, which is the most impactful thing we can do, we have now supported Durrell to plant nearly 18,000 trees in Brazil, restoring forest corridors to create lifelines for endangered wildlife.”

Donations from passengers through our CarbonPass app have also supported the planting of another 432 trees.
